Notational; Sometimes

ABOUT

“Notational; Sometimes”, is a commentary on sound art’s complexity which pays homage to the late works of John Cage, supplementing the hazy definition of the term. The piece playfully recontextualizes Cage’s “Graphic Score Variations” from its performative nature to a one-dimensional visual statement, dividing and isolating the transparent boundary between the two terms: sound and art. The slurry of ambiguous yet reminiscent musical elements seeks to fragment the conditioned perception of music, diminishing its “playability” and reimagining it as something purely visual.
